Sling
The sling is the first missile launcher. This ancient weapon was swung by rope and used smooth rocks. The purpose of this weapon was to hit far range targets.
Is there any physics that have to do with this?
The sling is ancient weapon and was the first missile launcher. Back then a missiles were thrown by hand, from either an instrument or an engine, that was intended to strike an object from far distances. So basically, the weapon consisted of a long rope loaded with a smooth rock/projectile. As the rope swung around in the air the energy is being switched from kinetic energy to potential energy. As soon the smooth rock is release into the air, the energy is kinetic energy then as it gets high into the air the kinetic energy gets turn to potential energy then as the rock comes back down then striking its target. So then the energy turns back into kinetic energy. As you build up Momentum, the object moved faster, making it easier to kill whatever it was you were aiming at.
David and Goliath
You all heard the story of David and Goliath. How David the small guy fought Goliath the biggest warrior Israel's warrior has ever seen. So brave David stood up against Goliath, once the fight started David's weapon was a sling and brought down might Goliath and cut off his head. The soldiers that invaded Israel retreated bask to there country.
Was it possible for David to kill Goliath in one shot?
See how a sling works by watching this video. Don't do this at home!!
